From Tent to Barn: An Autumn Wedding at The Barn at Flanagan Farm

October in Maine arrives with its own atmosphere – cool air, golden light, and a landscape that makes every outdoor celebration feel like it was designed around the season. For an autumn wedding at The Barn at Flanagan Farm, the evening moved through two entirely different spaces, each one asking something different of the lighting design.

Working alongside Lani Toscano Design and their floral team, The Studio Atelier by LTD, the lighting was built to carry the room from a warm, foliage-draped dinner into an electric barn dance floor – two moods, one night.

Inside the Tent

String lights woven across the sailcloth ceiling, greenery trailing through them, and beaded chandeliers suspended along the central line; the tent had a softness to it that suited the unexpected October palette. The beaded fixtures filtered the light rather than projecting it, casting a warm, diffused glow across the tables below.

Over the head table, a suspended floral installation created in collaboration with The Studio Atelier by LTD anchored the room’s focal point. Smoky glass globe pendants were rigged within the installation, their warm Edison glow giving the arrangement depth and warmth – the kind of detail that reads as one continuous design element rather than lighting and florals working separately. It set exactly the right tone for an autumn wedding at The Barn at Flanagan Farm, where the season itself is part of the design.

Inside the Barn

When dinner ended, and guests moved into the barn, the energy shifted entirely. Mirror balls at varying scales were suspended from the timber rafters, string lights woven between them, the whole ceiling fracturing light across the dance floor and the worn wooden walls. Flanagan Farm’s barn was built for nights like this. The mirror balls just made sure nobody went home early.

The contrast between the two spaces was the design. Restrained and warm for dinner, alive and kinetic for dancing. The lighting was built for both from the start.
